We are looking for a Senior App Engineer to take strong technical ownership of a consumer-facing mobile product. This is a hands-on IC role focused on mobile architecture, reliability, performance, production releases, and engineering quality. You will work closely with Product, Backend, and Firmware teams to make critical technical decisions, drive complex features from design to production, and raise engineering standards across the mobile team.
What you'll do
- Own mobile application architecture and reliability improvements from design through production.
- Drive technical decisions across BLE, background execution, offline recovery, audio, battery, and platform-specific behaviour.
- Lead complex and high-risk design and code reviews, ensuring correctness, performance, security, testing, and recovery.
- Partner with Product, Backend, and Firmware teams on dependencies, acceptance criteria, integration testing, and rollout plans.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term fixes rather than short-term workarounds.
- Simplify application architecture and make pragmatic technical trade-offs while maintaining product quality and delivery speed.
- Influence peers through technical designs, reviews, documentation, and actionable feedback.
- Stay deeply hands-on with coding, architecture, debugging, and production improvements.
- Raise overall engineering standards, app reliability, release quality, and technical maturity across the mobile team.
Must have
4–6 years of experience in mobile/app engineering with strong production ownership. Prior experience as an App Lead, Mobile Lead, Senior Mobile Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role. Strong hands-on experience with mobile architecture, application design, coding, debugging, and production releases. Strong Flutter/Dart experience with solid understanding of Android/iOS fundamentals and ability to debug beyond the framework. Experience with BLE/Bluetooth, background execution, offline recovery, audio flows, battery optimisation, and platform-specific behaviour. Strong understanding of async programming, concurrency, performance, security, testing, error handling, and recovery mechanisms. Proven experience conducting high-quality design and code reviews and identifying technical risks before production. Ability to independently own technical decisions, resolve engineering trade-offs, and drive improvements across the product. Strong communication and peer-influence skills with a track record of raising engineering standards without relying on formal authority.
Good to have
Experience building and scaling consumer-facing mobile products with repeated production releases. Experience working with connected devices, wearables, IoT products, or companion applications. Hands-on experience with real-time audio, audio streaming, or media-heavy mobile experiences. Strong experience integrating native Android/iOS capabilities with Flutter. Experience improving app stability, crash rates, performance, release quality, and overall reliability. Experience working in an early-stage or high-growth product startup environment. Familiarity with risk-based review gates, integration testing, rollout strategies, and production monitoring. Experience mentoring engineers or improving the quality of other engineers' work through reviews and technical guidance. Thoughtful use of AI-assisted development tools, with strong emphasis on verification, code quality, security, and data protection.
