We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with 3–5 years of experience to build and scale reliable backend systems for financial products. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on Python experience, a solid understanding of distributed systems, and prior experience in fintech, payments, lending, banking, or financial services. The role requires strong technical depth, end-to-end ownership, and the ability to build secure, high-performance systems in a fast-paced environment.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance backend services.
- Build and optimise APIs supporting financial products, payment workflows, lending, and credit operations.
- Ensure data integrity, transaction consistency, idempotency, and reliability across financial systems.
- Design efficient database schemas, optimise queries, and improve application performance.
- Build asynchronous processing pipelines and event-driven services using messaging systems and queues.
- Contribute to system architecture, technical design discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards.
- Monitor production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and improve observability and fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, infrastructure, and business teams to deliver robust financial solutions.
- Take end-to-end ownership of backend components, from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Must have
3–5 years of hands-on backend engineering experience, preferably in fintech or financial services. Strong proficiency in Python and experience writing production-grade backend code. Experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs. Strong understanding of distributed systems, system design, data modelling, and database optimisation. Experience working with financial workflows, payments, lending, banking, or transaction-heavy systems. Understanding of transaction integrity, data consistency, fault tolerance, and system reliability. Basic familiarity with AWS and cloud-based application deployment. Experience working in Linux or macOS environments, with strong debugging and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated technical depth, end-to-end ownership, and stable career progression, preferably with startup experience.
Good to have
Experience building payment systems, lending platforms, credit products, or financial transaction processing systems. Experience with Go, alongside hands-on Python experience. Familiarity with messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis Queue, Amazon SQS, or similar technologies. Experience with event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, and distributed task queues. Knowledge of payment reconciliation, ledger systems, idempotency, and transaction lifecycle management. Experience deploying and monitoring production systems on AWS or other cloud platforms. Previous experience in early-stage or high-growth startups with high ownership and limited supervision. Experience building applied AI/ML solutions, agentic systems, or RAG-based applications.
